Opinion on 4x12 scope?

Looking to top a 300wsm. I have Nikon's on all my stuff and never had the first bit of problem. May go back with Nikon but thought I might shop around other brands just to try something different. Want a 4x12x40 I know. Might would even try a little bigger. In NW Tn and Western Ky I never have a shot over 175 yards, most of mine are within 100.

What you say? Nikon, Leupold, Vortex? Not in a huge hurry to buy so will keep searching myself but thought I'd get some opinions. Looking to stay around $300. And yes I know you get what you buy but a good quality scope can be had for that and some less.

I have an older Vari-XIII that is a 4.5X14. When a deer comes right by me in the stand, the 4.5 magnification is too much for up close. For that reason, all my other scopes start at 3x. Even if the deer is right below me, 3x is not too much.
I may be the only one who thinks this way, but it works for me.

I recently got a prostaff 5 3.5-14x40 with sf. So far I like it a lot. Very clear scope.

Nikon builds good stuff. Since you already know and trust Nikon, no reason to change unless you’re talking about spending lots more than 300, IMO

I've got a Nikon 4x12x40 BDC reticle on my 300 WSM and it has performed as advertised so far buddy. I've shot out to 500 yds with it and have no complaints.

4-12 works well, I hunt with a 4-16 monarch often. Any of the brands you mentioned make great scopes, I own all 3.

I have a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4x12x40 VMR-1 that I bought for my Son who did not want it on his 308.

I have several rifles with cheap glass I need to upgrade so there will be a home someplace amongst them.

You get in the neighborhood and want to take it for a test spin let me know. Right now it is in the box looking cool.

Take a look through the Vortex Diamondback HP in either 3-12, or 4-16. Both fit well with your requirements listed above.

I have Burris scopes on both of my centerfire deer rifles. I have heard nothing but good things about the Vortex scopes. I think I will try one out on my next rifle. You might want to take a look at them.

A lot of good reviews on the Athlon scopes and I've noticed several retailers are carrying them now. I've inquired about them at Cameraland and Doug said he realizes that everyone doesn't have a chance to look through every scope and offered to refund on any scope that you're not happy with.
The Athlon argos 2-10x40 is $250.00 and is suppose to compare with the Leupold VX3i optics. Another good brand that I hear great things about is the GPO line of scopes.
A 3-9x40 is $299.00

I noticed that one, good buy for someone. If a bought that one I would have to buy a rifle...lol

Check out the GPO Passion 3x 4-12x40mm. I have one, great buy and in your price range. Optics on par with meopta and Zeiss conquest.

With price consideration and yes I have NIKON, LEUPOLD, VORTEX at different levels of cost. I also have REDFIELD revolution 3x9-40 w/accu range reticle excellent and REDFIELD is now owned by Leupold so great glass and warranty for cost.

Here is my vote Redfield revolution 4X12-40 and comes with Butler Creek eye/objective covers, coming at 240-260 bucks depending on reticle selection and if you want the caps.

I have a Leupold VX-II 4-12x40 on my Remington 700 CDL in 257 Weatherby. Also have an older VariX-2 4-12x40 on my Remington 700 ADL 25-06.

I think they are perfect for rifles such as these that are mostly used in big fields. Not sure I'd want them for a mostly woods rifle as 4X can be a bit much for real close shots.

I’ve found anytime u start cranking above 9x in a vari power scope u better have some good quality glass . Stick with Nikon Ziess and Leupold . Swarovski and Other Euros if u can afford them . Stay away from junk !
