Shot a turkey Tuesday and when I cleaned it I noticed it had s couple wound channels that were badly festered with a slimy green goo. I'm guessing the green color was from the copper plating? Is there any worry about lead poisoning for the family eating the meat? I cut out all the bad parts but didn't know if that may have spread into the whole bird or not. The wounds looked several months old at least. Any ideas?

If you cut out the discolored part, I'd be fine eating the rest.

I've seen several posts here and there where guys described the same thing you mentioned. Some guys said it was likely an injury from fighting another gobbler.

If the green is a large area like a bruise, it was probably from fighting. If there is a defined wound channel with green around it, I'd suspect it was shot. Regardless, the rest of the meat is fine if you trim the affected area out.
