Old trap

Boys found this today metal detecting around a big rock. They said it was 6 to 8 inches under the ground. I'm not sure how old it is but was hoping some of you old trappers may know a little about it. I know it's a victor but don't know how old it is.

Looks like a size #1 or 1 1/2 but I'm leaning more towards a #1 the age is hard to guess could be from the 70's or 80's . I still have a few that I set for muskrats that I had from the 80's.

My 12 year old loves to find old - cool - stuff with his detector. I wonder what a good vinegar soak would do to all the rust....

Try Naval Jelly it should remove the rust and leave a nice gray finish..

Obviously I don't practice what I preach…
