Old buck mount.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out trying to get an age on this old mount? I recently took apart a deer mount that was pretty run down mainly to make rattling antlers out of it. Upon cutting the stitching I found some very interesting things going on with this old mount. First it was filled with moss which was acting like a form keeping the skin/ hide full looking. While trying to remove the skull cap I realized that it was the entire skull inside the hide with moss packed giving it form as well. The bottom jaw was attached using twine that was wrapped 3 times around and kind of look mummy like. The person who mounted it squared up the brain portion of the skull so a 2x2 barn wood shaft about 2 foot long would sit flush and hold the skull in place. The wood shaft ran to the back of the mount then was cut down to fit in the slot of the barn wood backing. In the skull I found some mail in catalog with woman's long skirts ranging in price from $5-$7. If anyone might know where to send me to do more research I would appreciate it. I'll add pictures.

Yes scored 147 4/8s had 20 inches of mass both sides.

Looks like it was done by someone who took the old correspondence courses from The Northwest School of Taxidermy.

I had an old neck mount which may have been older than yours since no one does neck mounts anymore. My dad killed it in 1953. It had paper mache or some kind of paper substance inside. There was only the skull plate as I recall. The hide was moth eaten so I took the antlers off and remounted them on the original plaque.

Taxidermist today have it made thanks to people like that.
