Odds this deer will survive the winter(wounded)

Got this pic on my trail cams of a young 10 I was hoping would make it till next year but I guess the neighbors had a different plan for him. Any chance the wound heals and he survives the winter?

I think he should be fine. One of our best bucks got shot 3 weeks ago by our neighbor with a crossbow. We have gotten many pics of him since with a rage sticking out of his shoulder blade. He has been pushing does and is on his pre rut pattern so I think he is gonna make it.

I think he'll make it. And I'm not so sure it's a gun shot wound I think it could be a fighting wound.

Pretty sure it's a gun shot as one of my neighbors said they "missed" a 10

I feel pretty confident at this point he will be fine. Looks just like a couple that we saw taken this year with wounds from previous shots. And they weren't infected or still bleeding. He may suffer a bit growing his rack next year but that is far enough away I bet even that doesn't really suffer much negatively.

Not to hijack this thread. But it seems we have had a lot of deer shot and not recovered around us this year as well. I got this pic of one of the deer about a week ago. He looks really rough. I think he will be lucky to make it through the winter.

They will likely be ok, neither have shed their antlers which happens when their health declines to a critical point!

Had one very similar last year. He dropped his antlers early and looked a little rough but he ended up being fine.

I think he will be fine, but you'll have to see if the injury causes funky rack growth next year.

That buck will heal just fine and I don't think it will even affect his rack. It seem to me that back leg injuries seem to affect the future rack.

He needs to quit showing himself in daylight if you want him to make it till next year! Not saying I would personally shoot him buy I'd say 90% of everyone out there would

Front leg injury will likely affect same side antler, rear leg injury normally affects opposite side antler.
I agree this injury looks to be muscle and not skeletal which should not affect his rack next yr.

I shot a nice mature 8 point this season with the exact same wound, except from a few years ago. I noticed it on last year's trail cam pics. It was healed and I thought it was from his G2s. But after looking closer when I killed him you could tell he had been shot. Then when I caped you could definitely tell as there was a decent amount of muscle missing. But all healed and no infection. That deer will be fine.

I've seen a lot of deer killed with old wounds that bad or worse. I shot a deer high but lower than the spine with a bow and ended up killing him during rifle and it looked as though it never phased him.

Don't think it's the same one. His left side only shows three. The Decemeber pic shows four on the his left.

I agree it is likely the same buck. It appears he lost a little mass and a point though.
