I am thinking about an elk hunt next fall preferably bow, but not 100%.

Have any of you hunted out there with an outfitter that you would recommend?

Thanks,

No, but I would call Foster and Kathy Butt in Madison,TN. at their taxidermist shop. I drove out by the ranch they lease and the area looks great. I called him when I got out near his place back in August to see if he needed any help getting his camp ready. But he was two weeks from heading out there and I had flyfishing plans on up in Colorado so I wasn't able to help out. US Outfitters tried to take their lease several years ago but couldn't get it. Topnotch folks and does great taxidermy work too.He told me that they had added several thousand more acres to their lease this year too.

Ditto on PO's advice.
I can't vouch personally, but my best buddy's been on several Texas turkey and NM elk hunts with Foster and Kathy. He thinks they're the greatest and keeps going back with them. He always scores on turkeys and I think has always scored on elk, too (sometimes just cows, though). He added on to his house just to make room for the 6x6 over the mantle - true story. He's a rifle/muzzie hunter, though. PM me if you want my friend's name and number for a reference. He'd be glad to talk to you.

You might check out Beaverheadoutfitters.com in Winston,N.M.
One of the partners/guides is Ken Swaim who has a national reputation, and is a bow hunter.
I go to church with Ken's dad, combat infantry veteran, sunday school teacher, etc., and if Ken is anything like his dad, he is first class.

Did not mention that their hunting area is the Gila Wilderness and vicinity, home of the "Gila monsters", and I ain't talkin' about lizards!

Pic or two of area close to Foster's ranch.Give you an ideal of the terrain.

Got hold of a couple of pics. from some NM elk hunts. My friends were guided by Foster Butt - I think Kathy Butt, too and maybe their son.
