Well finally got to go shoot my new flintlock... going to go a little more old school this muzzleloader season. Pedersoli hunter Hawken with a 1 in 24 twist barrel to shoot modern bullets better. Shoot TC Shockwave 250 grain bullets...

Now you've gone and done it….

Next you'll be looking at a smoothbore flintlock..
They will kill…

Harold Money jr I've killed a bunch of deer with a flintlock and ball. I can attest to their effectiveness at reasonable distances. I suspect my friend Smo will chime in and totally agree.

That's not me, he's a lot uglier than I am! 🤣
And younger!

Sometimes I just have too sit down and shoot…lol
But I have shot left handed a few times when the situation called for it.. actually killed a deer once left handed… at 20 yards or so.
Please excuse my ignorance, but wouldn't shooting a right handed flintlock left handed expose your face to the flash from the pan?

As I mentioned above, there's a learning curve too shooting a flintlock. I'm in my 13 year..

# 1 concentrate on the front sight, I never see the flash , just a little smoke.

In reality, yes the flash is in your face shooting from the left side..

A little better view..

Flintlocks are a lot of fun, but they're not for everyone …

The eyes can also get exposed to the flash from the pan when the correct hand model is used.
A friend let me try his flintlock and maybe primed the pan with too much powder, and the particles got swept right up under my safety glasses and irritated my eyes for a while.
Safety glasses should have good coverage against the cheek.

I looked it up on Wikipedia.
Safety glasses don't work when shooting a flintlock.
Only percussion capped.
Wikipedia said.

I was going too say, I've experienced more splatter from a percussion cap than a flint gun…
Not to say it couldn't happen , the pan and vent are designed too direct the flash at a 90 degree angle and upwards.

Too much prime will get you a bigger flash. For sure.
Another part of the learning curve.

Ive cut myself plenty of times and burned my fingers , but never had a chip of flint hit my face …knock on wood.👍

Rule # 2. Don't stand close to vent side of the person shooting!
