I've not read much about them yet, but I like the idea.
Very interesting.

It may not be a huge deal though, because many of us already shoot .45 caliber shots with the plastic jackets in our 50 caliber MZ's.

From what I can gather, cva is coming out with a few .40 caliber options in their muzzleloader series of rifles. One is an Accura version. The other is a Paramount style version. They also developed a 225 gr, .40 caliber version of the Powerbelt ELR that the rifles can utilize. It'll be interesting to see how they perform with the advertised 1:20 twist rate. It should work well with the 225 gr ELR but I'm curious how it'll handle heavier, longer .40 caliber bullets. Also curious what size charge they used to get that kind of velocity from a non-smokeless.

Got an email on the new .40 a few days ago. Looks interesting. If we did not have one for my wife and myself I might look more into it.

Been very happy with our cva accura muzzleloading rifles. Forget the velocity off the top of my head I am getting with 120 grains loose t7 and a 240 grain xtp, but it shoots pretty flat for a muzzleloader.

Like mentioned above though for unit cwd can use a rifle now.

On the website, it says up to 170 grains by volume (119 grains by weight) of Black horn 209

Using 170 grns by volume, should save time skinning one too!
Just blow the skin off of them....works for me.

170 grns in a .40 cal, would be a stack of powder almost 1/4 the way up the 26" barrel from the breech plug...Exciting!

I might have to switch over to one of these in a few years! Impressive!

140grV and the 225gr clocked 2640fps
150grV and the 225gr clocked 2710fps

Man that has to be making some serious peak pressure to get that kind of speed. My guess is that is why the MR-X is only getting 2300fps and probably using 120grV of BH209 as its max load. Imagine what the numbers would be moving upto a 250gr or heavier Fury or Pittman 40cal. OUCH

I know of a guy testing a 40cal Knight with heavier bullets. Getting around 2300fps with a 250gr and just 120grV of BH209. Major plug upgrades were needed or it ate them for lunch. Bestill has a video with a short clip of the rifle based on a Knight DISC type action.

My cva accura long range is shooting a 280 gr at almost 2300 over my magneto chronograph with 110 gr of blackhorn.
A 280gr what exactly because i have never seen a Accura LR in 45cal yet. That is some amazing speed for a 50cal unless you are talking about 110gr by weight which is a huge over load for that rifle. I get a little over 2100fps in a 45cal sabotless with 120gr by volume in a 27" barrel. I cant imagine how you are getting almost 2300fps in a 50cal without exceeding the powder max.

120gr by volume or 84gr by weight (roughly) is the max BH209 load in all Accuras at this time.
