Back then from what my Granddad told me, they would pack a few keepsakes in their footlocker when they came home on the ship. Now a days, hail no.

Different times back then.
In the Pacific theater, they had weird rules. Type 96/99 Light Machine Guns were allowed, but not the magazines. Which is why magazines are now $1,500 to $2,000 each. IF you can find them.
Knee Mortars had the firing pin tips clipped off.
Generally rifles and pistols were okay, as were swords.
Now days, it requires a ton of paperwork to even bring home an antique. My local scrounger in Afghanistan assured me that he could find a Mosin Nagant and also make sure it met the legal requirements with some artful re-engraving of the date.

My Dad brought back a 1943 BYF P38 in excellent condition in PO8 holster wish I had a P38 holster like yours ! It's still in excellent Orginal condition only fired less than one magazine in it in my lifetime and I am 63.
SVW is the plant Mauser( OBERNDORF) the pistol was made in 1945 probably the last to come off the assembly line by the French for the French Security Forces just after the end of WW2.
I would really like to buy your holster !
