I drove from Chattanooga to Dallas yesterday and just outside of Vicksburg, Mississippi on I-20 I saw a bear crossing sign. I had never seen a bear crossing sign before and I had no idea there are or ever were bears in Mississippi. Apparently there used to be a lot and now there are very few. They were listed as an endangered species in Mississippi almost 30 years ago. They are trying to bring the population back with habitat improvement, but they are challenged because many of the bears in Mississippi are transient males passing through from surrounding States. I also did not know that the origin of the "Teddy Bear" is from Mississippi. Pretty interesting stuff.

On another note, I had never driven across Alabama before but the part I drove across yesterday was beautiful country. I had a different image of Alabama in my head. Figured it would be more like Mississippi. I did not realize that Alabama has so much rolling hill country. Not quite as beautiful as East Tennessee, but still really pretty country.
It took me almost 14 hrs to make the trip with a few stops on the way for fuel and pork BBQ. Overall it was a pretty cool road trip.
