The military is one of the most respected institutions in America. That respect comes about, in part, because the military is strictly non-partisan and its members are not allowed to take sides in political debates. Trying to piggyback on that respect, the Obama administration is making a play for retired officers who can speak their minds and support gun control. The administrations most recent ex-military get is Retired Army Brig. Gen. Stephen Xenakis, who served 28 years as an Army psychiatrist. A recent report released shows that Veterans are receiving letters saying they can no longer own or purchase guns, some of these Veterans called in and reacted to receiving these letters that seek to deprive Military Veterans of their 2nd Amendment rights.

InfoWars reports that Xenakis and several other retired military officials met with Joe Biden at the White House to strategize a public relationships push for gun control:

Ahead of a Senate hearing on gun control today, Vice President Joe Biden met with retired military officials to thrash out a strategy to win over public approval for the implementation of strict anti-gun measures.

The White House isnt making any secret of the fact that it wants to have military personnel on board with its gun control push precisely because the military has such high standing with Americans. As General Xenakis told The Hill:

The vice president understands that when it comes to communicating with credibility on guns, the two groups with the most credibility are law enforcement and military officials, he said. We have experience with both having weapons and using them responsibly, so we can get that message out.

related: A recently leaked DOJ memo suggests the government knows that gun control will not work unless it is includes gun confiscation video footage of Sen. Dianne Feinstein has her telling a reporter that if she can pass gun confiscation she will. Last month Joe Biden didnt realize he was being recorded when he said that the Assault Weapons Ban will not reduce shootings.

Given that the militarys credibility derives from its constitutionally non-political stance, General Xenakis might want to ask himself whether that same credibility will extend to a civilian (because thats all he is now) who is taking sides in a decidedly partisan public debate. One side of the debate is the Constitution (the peoples right to bear arms shall not be infringed), while on the other side is Dianne Feinstein (assault weapons are merely a personal pleasure).
Those generals allying themselves with the administrations gun control push will also have to deal with the fact that the Fort Hood shooting demonstrated how limited the militarys gun savvy really is. No one denies that the military is effective when it comes to training people how to use weapons and use them effectively on the battlefield. However, to the extent that the military establishes gun free zones every bit as strict as those found at American schools or shopping malls, it has proven itself as inept as any school or mall when it comes to protecting its members from gun violence.

Ultimately, the Obama administration may find that, rather than enhancing their branding through an alliance with a small number of retired military officers, they will succeed only in diminishing (however slightly) the publics respect for the military.

Last week we wrote an article Debunking Every Liberal Gun Myth Still, who knows if the government will pass the assault weapons ban, if youre worried it will pass here are the 5 Guns You should Buy Before A Gun ban, in better news though a Sheriff in Oregon has said that he will not enforce the gun ban even if it is passed and he is joined by many other law enforcement that are standing against Obamas Gun Control Agenda.

Any military personnel that back an infringement of Condtitutional rights will have betrayed the oath they took just like Obama and many In congress have.
