Had this buck on Cam as a sloppy fat 4.5 in early October. He showed back up a few days and has made this place home. He actually tripped 4 cams the same night. Started showing up in daylight. Passed him up at 80 yards (day photo taken with phone) one morning and again the next afternoon. Really impressive deer. Really excited about what he can be as a 5.5. But im afraid he is gonna starve to death. I have never seen a deer as horny or willing to cover ground like this guy. He has to be down 60 pounds since early October.

Good on you for having the will power to hold off. I try my best and haven't killed a buck since 2016 (don't get to hunt as much as I used to) but I don't know that I could let that one walk.

I for sure wouldn't let him walk. Maybe someday I'll be in that position, but it ain't never happened yet.

I did the same thing with a very similar buck and the next yr he was an absolute brute. The next yr he was the best buck i had ever had on camera. He died the next yr on a farm down the way. I actually have now bought the farm where he bedded. Im hoping this dude will blow up like that, and luckily this guy seems to the like the core of my farm more than the edges.

The first pic (him facing right) was 2019- passed him on thanksgiving morning and new years ever that yr. He was badly run down on new years.

The next 2 pics (with him facing left) are when he showed back up around halloween . I would not have passed him that yr. He was 5.5 or 6.5 when he died

He exploded for sure! What a giant!!!

I dont often see jumps like that. In the last several years I've only seen it happen twice. Most of the bucks I monitor grow gradually each season until they peak around 5 or 6, then never see them again. Actually they go down hill as often as they gain. The one I shot this year lost frame, but added mass.
