Livestock problem

The last 2 nights the cows beside me have got out and trashed my yard. I've contacted the sheriffs office and had one of those guys out. They can't contact the owner. A tree has tore down the fence and I have nothing to fix or block it off with. It's probably 15-20 total cows and calfs.

I know it's civil to get anything they have messed up fixed... Right now a couple hundred dollars at most so while I'm mad, what are you gonna do? I've got poop from one side of my yard to the other... Ruts in new grass and soil I had brought in... And the have broken my drainage pipe for the gutters where they crushed them.

Short of shooting them, what are my options? I run them off and they come right back. Either the owner is not at home or not answering... And her neighbors are not talking.

Have saw cattle prices lately??
I would tell her next time you will catch everyone and load'em up and take'em to sale barn. You figure 20 cow/calf pairs, your looking at 12-18K. That should get her attention

Be sure to get EVERYTHING documented... PHOTOS of the damage as well... a police report too.... If it goes that far, you have proof to back up your claims.

If you have to hire someone to cut the tree off the fence and remove the limbs from your yard.... document that and save the bill.

And if you buy supplies to repair the fence be sure to keep up with your time, gas, and materials cost.

The fence and tree are not on my property line... It's nearly 100 yards from me I guess I just have the best tasting grass.

Someone's getting the word. Just talked to the landowners brother. He said someone else owns the cows and they are trying to contact him. I don't have a chainsaw since moving to TN... And it's a big tree across it.

I guess the livestock owner will come talk to me... But not holding my breath. There are a couple houses up here with damage. I checked the neighbor who is in Florida house and they have broken some of here driveway lights and pooped on here drive also.

Really though, short of killing them, there is nothing you can do without getting in touch with the prop owner and having them make you whole again (while fixing the problem to by properly fencing the cows. And really, killing them would just create a whole new set of problems.

Lots of times once they get it in their heads that a certain lot of grass is the best its hard to keep them away from it. Proper fencing can only do so much but its usually enough
