It's a business decision. The cost of a trial, bad publicity, stacked jury, judge's ego, etc., would have likely cost much, much more. This is an insurance company cutting it's losses. This has nothing to do with Martin's victim/criminal status, just the fact that the neighborhood watch program was supported by the HOA. If there weren't previous cases like this, look for similar watch programs to fade into distant memory.
