one thing i learnt on our trip was to gas the car up when you left the motel of a morning because gas stations can be far apart

There's a road between the Tetons and the airport that leads to the backside of the old Rockefeller estate. The trail leading to the lake and campground is a beautiful easy 45 minute hike. When I was working at the airport there in 87-88, we would go back there everyday after work. I wish i could remember the name of the road but it was too long ago.
The beauty of that lake was unbelievable.

I've been, and I'm going back in a few weeks.

Too many "must do/see" to do in a couple days.. Seriously. If you only have 1 day for Yellowstone, you will just have to pick/choose what you want. It could take you 2+ hrs to drive from one site to the next (Old faithful -to- Mamoth Spring) . I would pick between these three:
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Old Faithful
Driving thru Lamar valley or Hayden Valley at dusk or daylight (see wolves/bears/elk/bison/etc)

Totally agree....Driving thru Lamar valley at dusk or daylight is a must do if your in the area... amazing country and an awesome experience to see herds of bison in that environment.

The wife and I were out there this past September. We were told that all funding is private...they absolutely refuse to accept government funds. Also they've had more modern equipment donated to more rapidly remove the rock which will hopefully result in an earlier finish time. Pic from September 2020...

I was there 15 years ago, looks the exact same.

I guess maybe that all the Indian tribes can divert some casino funds to the project, otherwise, they can just collect dollar bills from retirees on tour buses!

I booked a Toyota Sequoia through Jackson Hole Backcountry rentals for $100 per day. I couldn't believe it. I had tried calling every rental car company around and all had waiting list. Cant beat that.
Well, I’d like to hear more. I’d rather take my wife here for 20th than Vegas or some hot island beach.
