You know you can limit your own self if you think there are too many killed, if all turkey hunters think there is a problem take the initiative and talk your buddys into a lower number for a few years and see if it helps.

I disagree. Contact your TWRA commissioner. Hopefully you have one of the new one. They are clearly listening to the hunters. And are making changes across the state. I am very happy to be represented by Commissioner Stan Butt in my Region.
You need to converse with some of the new commissioners, you'd speak differently. Why you think the old boss just retired after 2 years.
Winds of change are blowing through the agency and it is a good thing.

You guys will be competing for south MS populations in a few. We had a banner year this year in my county due to a great hatch 2y ago. Keep in mind the percentage of the population who hunts is higher than TN, but the overall population is much lower.
If we kill in the 90s again next year for the county totals, I'll be thrilled

Mega, are these #'s from the Game Check report? Reason I ask is from what I've heard they estimate approx. half the birds killed are actually reported.

Weakley county is consistent in harvest and Obion is not to bad,alot better than my County.Im afraid that Clay county is nearing the end as far as turkeys go.

That's a good question! I mostly turkey hunt in MS and honestly don't know. I know since game check for turkeys has only been used what, 3 years now in MS? i would not be surprised if it was lower than 50%.

It's interesting so many counties, such as Weakley & Obion, are counties late to have huntable turkey populations. Many these counties seem "ok" at present.
I used to do a lot of quail hunting in Weakley & Obion county when both had lots of quail, but zero turkey. Had to travel farther east to go turkey hunting. But today, quail are near extinction in those same two counties, while the turkeys seem to be doing ok.

I maybe way off here because I can't remember when the first fall turkey hunt started with shotgun. It seems we used to be able to shoot one with a bow during archery season. It seems the turkey numbers have plummeted since the fall hunt and the shooting of hens.

There aren't a ton of turkeys in MS any longer. Not since the mid 2000s. A few pockets here and there with plenty, but those spots are few and far between. Birds in south MS disappeared after Katrina.
