......getting fired up about shooting does this year . I had a good year last season and took several deer ,and still have some meat left over .
I passed up two does already . Do you guys ever struggle with taking enough does , because you just get tired of processing them ?
I normally pop the first doe that gives me a shot opportunity .

YES!!!!!

We pass up way too many does because we already have too many deer to process hanging in the cooler. I wish there was a place to donate whole deer that didn't cost anything.

Same here .

You got to shop around BSK. I have one guy that will beg for 6 a season and another that wants 10, no joke. I only gave one 4 last year and you would have thought he was going to break my plate. They will take them whole if you call right when you put the tag on them.

My problem is I want to put up the first 4 I harvest and the heat dont help. I can put one maybe two if they are Ruger size in a cooler with ice but that is it. When you work shift work you have to cool them cause it may be days before I can butcher them.
We are seeing 50% less deer this year so far.

My deer observations are down too . I'm not sure if it's because of a mast failure in the area or dieoffs from EHD , but my trail camp pictures dropped off in Sept. as well .

My neighbor would take all we would give him. He died a few years ago and can't find anybody that wants them now. I know we pass on too many because we don't want to process them.

I've never shot more than 3 a year until last year because I'd only shoot what my family would eat. Well last year on our lease they wanted to shoot some does and my brother-in-law had workers that would take them so I ended up shooting 1 buck and 7 does. I did get tired of messing with 'em in a way though. If I have somebody that will come get it I have no problem popping one. I've only been in the woods once and the way it's looking I'll be lucky to get back in the woods before muzzleloader kicks in. It was way too hot that morning and my mind was made up before then I wasn't going to shoot a doe.

I do not like taking does until it cools off to hot to mess with anything that is not going on the wall. But Yoder brothers processing was taking deer for hunters for the hungry last year and not charging any processing fee. so I took them 6 does.

Worm (or anyone else),

If someone knows of anyone who will take field-dressed does in Humphreys County, let me know. Hot weather isn't a problem as we have a professional-grade 10' x 12' walk-in cooler.

I don't know how many of you are in or near Montgomery Co., but there are three processing locations that will except deer for the FHFH program.

Check out their website. If close it is a win/win for both sides.

FDXX75

I use the program each yr with at least one extra permit that I get up here.

I really hate you.

When I worked Hump Co. I had a guy that lived on the road across from the COOP on hwy 13 that took all I could kill and all that the cars hit if fresh. Cant remember his name.

When I moved back here I ran a small ad in the local newspaper for two weeks. Got a dozen or so calls and that is where I came up the with names.

Call the Sheriff Dept. They usually have names and numbers of people wanting deer from road kills. That is your best bet.

I don't typically shoot does anymore. I used to shoot a bunch to give to folks that wanted it, but those people moved away so now, unless I start my own processing for jerky I just ain't gonna be shooting any antlerless deer. The bucks I shoot I will have processed for myself and others.

I'm going to look up some proccessors in my area to see if they will accept them for hunter's for the hungry . If I have to pay full amoun't forget it , I'll proccess my own and give away some meat to friends .

For 2 years I watched walkin-coolers being sold on ebay until a great deal came up. I called the company selling the unit and it turned out they would make me one, custom designed, for the same price. So I ended up with this company from Florida building me one and including a more powerful compressor motor than most come with (1 HP 3-phase instead of the usual 1/2 HP single-phase) AND shipped to my door for $3,500. Roofs, walls and floor all professional grade, easy to assemble.
