If you're going to spend the money on a build, I'd DEFINETLY do a 280 AI...

Handloads will perform just under the 7 mag on a beltless case.

In a pinch, standard factory 280 rounds will fire in it just fine.

I almost went with the 280AI with my custom rig, but decided to go the 7mm WSM just to save a little on weight and overall length.

Its hard for me to suggest what I really want to suggest due your inexperience with handloading. The 280AI in my opinion is the finest cartridge to put in a long standard action rifle. Especially that Nosler offeres brass. You could also shoot std 280 ammo in it and use the brass later when all supplies are bought. The standard 280 is no slouch and factory loads redily available. I personally am building another 280 AI as I really love the balance of speed, accuracy, and power.

Depends on what the future holds. If you're going to put a high quality barrel and have no intention of ever trading the rifle off I would go with the 280AI. If, however, you're just tinkering and are going to put a cheaper barrel with thoughts of someday trading for something different (it happens) then go with the 280 Remington and it will be easier to sell to the majority of people. In the end, go with whatever makes you happy. It's your rifle.

YEP just 280 Remington so you can resell someday.
