Criminals no longer fear anything and the #1 thing that they don't fear is punishment from a court/judge. That being said it's up to each individual to prepare himself to fend off criminals. I'm 65, out of shape I a bad way, overweight and diabetic so physically fight or run is out of the realm of realistic possibilities for me. I consider anyone that presents themself in an abnormal way as a threat to my well being and will use what I have on me to first try and de-escalate the situation and if that doesn't work I will raise the very real probability of he/she/them/they/it/thug being badly injured with perforations that they were not born with that allow leakage of fluids that are normally contained and necessary to sustain human life.

I liked Sheriff Joe Arpaio's (Maricopa Co. / Arizona) method of incarceration...tent Cities, baloney sandwiches and striped uniforms for the inmates, and he charged them for their meals and clothes.

We've got plenty of open desert to build massive tent cities. I'd put a shoot house on each corner and let the dogs feed on themselves. Put them far enough out in the desert that if an escape is attempted, they'll likely die of exposure.

Problem solved.

The REAL problem is all the Left Wind DA's that aren't prosecuting criminals anymore. Fix that and you're 50% there.

Seriously, you really believe this?
I don’t think he’s right but with the power of the internet, we know more now about crime nationwide as opposed to 30 years ago.
30 years ago I wouldn’t hear about a shooting in Bunghole,North Dakota.
Today our newsfeeds are just riddled with it.

Another idea for juvenile offenders.
Make them sit in a boat with me and listen to one of my famous lectures for a few hours.
My sons still talk about them.😀
😂 😂 I can hear it now

Judge: "You're hereby sentenced to 6-hours in a fishing boat with Chiflyguy"

Prisoner: "Is lethal injection an option?"

Judge: "No, lethal injection is too swift"

Prisoner: (hangs himself in the county holding cell)

I'm strongly in favor of Arpaio's methods, but things did not end well for him or Arizona, Trump pardon not withstanding. That's why you are not likely to see a lot of others emulating his approach. :(

"....Joe Arpaio, the former sheriff who garnered nationwide attention for his crackdown on illegal immigration, has been convicted of criminal contempt by a federal judge in Arizona. The ruling carries a possible maximum sentence of six months in jail and a monetary fine for the 85-year-old Arpaio....."

Since we already outsource our prisons to private companies why not follow industry and outsource them to Mexico. Gotta think the idea of being sent to Juarez would be a big disincentive and it would be cheap. Maybe Haiti. Another politically impossible idea that makes perfect sense

Don't forget several district attornies have DOWNGRADED the crimes across the board. Take New York, several ARMED robberies and ARMED carjackings were signed off on the police reports as simple robberies and carjackings. Also, several people were pulled out of the carjackings and ended up with broken arms and scraped skin where they needed stitches, they were NOT classified as violent crimes.

By downgrading the crimes they now have a MUCH BETTER RECORD.
