We have an old farm place about 100 acres that has been in my family for over 120 years and me and dad own it know. I have hunted this farm for over 30 years. Nothing but two big ridges couple of flats around both and creek bottom. I was wondering if any other guys on here have had the chance to hunt a piece of property this long and do you ever feel like sometimes it a disadvantage because it seems like no matter what happens i end up hunting same spots over and over. I dont kill alot of bucks cause im very picky on what i shoot off this farm. so i often feel like im not doing it justice or not a good hunter cause the lack of buck bigs going down on this farm.I have often thought of taking an educated hunter and let them look the place over and see if they would hunt the same spots??

I have hunted the same farm for 29 yrs now and I find that it is hard to try different spots once I have a little sucess in a spot. We are creatures of habit.

I have hunted a little 40 acre piece of heaven for 23 years now, since I was ten years old.I have killed alot of deer here including a few nice ones.I have 10 stand sites, and I try to alternate between them to keep things fresh.I learned pretty quick 40 acres was pretty small, and keeping things fresh was a must. The deer on this farm have used the exact same trails and patterns all of these years. This farm is loaded with white oaks,a few reds, persimmons, two agriculture fields,a creek, and plenty of thick cover surrounding it.The sweet lady that has let me hunt all these years, and probably kept me out of trouble as a youth,is getting way on up in age now.She has told me when she passes, that her nephew will inherit it and log it.That will be one sad day.

Ive hunted the same farm for over 16 years (or when my wife and I met) that is 130 acres not a long time compared to your situation but with that said we have success. We have about 5 ladder stands on the property that are hunted according to wind direction, movement, etc. We hunt these stands all season and we're not shy about it. We're killing 3 1/2 year old deer off the property. Ive got other private land that is available with stands but this property consistently produces deer even though we hunt the fire out of it!

We have hunted a farm in Giles. Co. for about 20 + years and it is just 93 acs but we've killed a ton of deer off from it basically from the same stands . With that being said I'll throw a curve to the old wise bucks and sit in my climber from time to time . All property is different so I really don't know what you are faced with but change it up once in a while and do in season scouting , some times the deer pattern you. !

I have been hunting my dads farm since I was 10, so 26 years now. It is about perfect in how it lays, about 60 percent fields with great funnels. If deer are up and moving I will see them. I have killed at least 1 buck off this farm every year for 26 years and the last 16 years it has had 8 pts or better. I only have 3 stands set up on it.

I have hunted the same tract of land for going on 33 years. Although it is 14k acres, I have covered just about all of the property over the years. Seems like I learn something new about the property every year. I enjoy the scouting part just as much as hunting and killing anymore. It would be neat to look at a piece of property and compare where different hunters would put stands or hunt.

I've hunted several places for almost 30 years, every year I kill good deer there now. Until about 15 years ago I hunted the same stands every year and nothing changed in terms of habitat, I wasn't seeing or killing any mature bucks. I decided to begin changing the habitat and thus causing me to have to move stands to adjust to timber harvests etc etc.. Now I routinely kill and see mature bucks, I believe it's because their world is constantly shifting and so am I.

I've hunted the same property since my family purchased it in 1987 (27 deer seasons). The biggest problem most hunters who hunt the same property year after year face is getting stuck in a rut. They find some "hot spots" early on and stick with them forever, even though their success from those spots declines over time. often, this leads the hunters to believe the quality of the property has declined. In reality, the problem is the deer have patterned the hunters. It was this very situation that allowed me to quantify just how important it is to "hunt where no one else has been hunting," even on a single property. The #1 FACTOR for success at seeing 3 1/2+ year-old bucks on my place is how many times a particular location has been hunted. With each subsequent time an individual stand has been hunted, the odds of seeing a 3 1/2+ year-old buck decline.

Ever since we discovered this relationship, the most difficult aspect of our hunting has been finding new areas on the property to hunt. On the flip side, this need to constantly try unhunted locations has forced us to try areas we would normally ignore--areas that just don't "look good." And it has been some of these overlooked locations that have proven most productive.

First don't be down, you have something that most of us would love to have. A place to hunt that you can share with your family without permission from others and don't have to worry about year after year. Second, like has been said, move around a little. Its your place wonder around and try different places. If you wanting to improve the land and animals on it I would recommend talking to a biologist or someone in the agricultural field. They are the ones that can help you with soil test, crops for wildlife, crop rotation, what to plant/cut/leave and when/where.

Your post got me thinking, we've hunted a farm for about 15 years or more and have taken a lot of super deer there, but we have only taken very very few of the deer from a lock on or permanent stand. I would say 90% of the mature bucks we have taken have been from the ground moving with the wind or from a climber. I know I personally have only killed one buck out of a permanent stand ever.

I've been rather successful out of my permanent stand locs on my place over the past several years, last year excluded of course. Hunter error. I just hunt each day according to wind direction, and this usually keeps me moving to a different stand. Only have 44 acres that I own, but another 80+ of family owned land adjoins it. And it is hunted, which is another factor in itself imo. I limit my presence out there around my actual hunting stands, except for routine seasonal maintenance, or setting up a new stand.

I have hunted the same place since '89. Most years it has been the only place I've hunted. I have several permanent locations that are great. It allows me to go right in without disturbing a lot.

In difficult years I don't hesitate to break out the climber.

BUT, a lot has changed over the last 25 years, on my place and neighboring places...logging being the biggest factor. Clear cutting in the area increased the number of deer significantly.

I am planning a cut on my place for the first time in 12 years this summer, if they ever get it done.

Do you have good cover for the deer. If not, clear cutting several acres near food plots in a couple areas could make a big difference.

For rifle season, I've killed every buck from the same stand with the same gun, on the same farm hunting with the same guys...I bought the place in 1989..so roughly 25 years

Im 51 and have always hunted family property that was originally owned by my great grand-parents who purchased it over 100 years. The land has been passed down through the generations but we've been fortunate to be able to keep it intact.
