I have a commode in a un heated building .. I cut the water off and drain the lines when it gets cold.. but I can't get all the water out of the bowl part of the commode.. well it froze and busted last week.. is there a trick to completely draining one?

Add some marine/rv antifreeze. That's what I do at my lake house.

If you've ever replaced one, there's no way to get all the water out without turning it upside down because of the water trap. Anti-freeze has to be the answer in your situation.

If you empty the trap, be prepared for sewer gas to enter the building which could potentially explode is sparked. It is much safer to use RV antifreeze.

Turn water off, flush as much as you can, and anti freeze bowl and toilet

At the cabin, when I winterize, I hold the flush lever until it stops and run antifreeze and flush the antifreeze, then, to all the p traps, hope it works for ya, yep, what he said

I've used a cheap turkey baster, I know plumbers use what works like a bike pump with a rubber hose to suck the water out

Surprised the water feed pipe is one piece.

I would be draining that system if at all possible.

I pour cheap cooking oil in all my toilets and drains when going to be away for awhile to prevent water evaporating and sewer gas entering,,,I've seen people put saran wrap over the toilet bowl to prevent water evaporation but doesn't work too well for drain traps.
