I am sure this has been asked before but fig people are trying new things and learning with the passing of each year, this is my 1st yr running Tcams started last Nov. I have 4 cams now and have all 4 on dif farms that I hunt over salt to see what deer are around. My question is once you fig out what deer you have and what deer you wont to target come season how many cameras will you run in that area, how far apart, is more better, do you move the cams more often come Nov.. just wondering what all yal have tried and what you think has hurt you or helped.. thanks for any comments

Personally most of the time I will take my cameras out of the areas I'm hunting in the weeks leading up to season. By that point in time I have a pretty good feel for my deer herd and have formed my hit list. Thats how I do it but that doesn't make it the right way or only way.

If you have one camera for each property, just use one at each. Keep them on salt until season opens and then move them to somewhere like a food plot or heavily used trail. Once scrapes start showing up you will want to put them on scrapes. How often to check them is highly opinionated.

It is very common for people to be misled by doing this. You see it all of the time.. People post pictures of mature bucks on their summer range before season that leave right as season opens every year. You could be missing several bucks that move onto your property and also targeting deer that do not set foot on your property during season.

Two years ago a buck showed up on camera and I killed him in late December. Last year I had what I thought was gonna be a bonanza year I had buck after buck on my TR. Come muzzle loader season they disappeared. And never returned.

Trail cams can lead you astray. They can show you a bunch of neat stuff and I love that but I no longer place tooooooo much emphasis on any buck that stops and poses.

That is very true. I just personally don't like having camera's where I'm hunting during season. Maybe its just my cheaper Primos and moultries but mature bucks seem to pick them out from a mile away.
