I have shot the 3 inch 20 gauge Federal HVW #7 . They are great shells! I still have some and wouldn't hesitate to load them in my gun on any morning in the turkey woods!

The 10g 2oz #7s out of a kicks choke give me nearly identical patterns as my 20g 1.5oz #9tss loads. Both are deadly.

Great shells and as close to tss as you can get at a fraction of the cost.

But I'm still carrying my 20g this spring.

Until a couple years ago, about ALL I used for turkey hunting was the "old" Federal Heavyweights in #7. Those particular #7's are much "heavier" than Hevi-13 turkey loads. I've seen them shoot completely thru a large Tom's breast at 46 yds.
Awesome shells!

Other than true TSS, nothing else even comes close to the turkey-killing ability of those "old" Federal HW's.

As to recoil, I believe the 3 1/2" 12 ga has 1 7/8 oz payload, so it's recoil is not as bad as some 3" turkey loads carrying a 2 oz payload.

I had a few #6's in the "old" Federal HW loads as well.
Today, I'm mainly using #9 TSS as the chambered load, but have a 2nd if needed round being those left-over #7 or #6 "old" versions.
