Massive snowfall has prompted the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to start “emergency feeding” of elk in some parts of the state. However, a rancher in one of those locations, Star Valley, said the larger problem is too many elk to begin with.

The state of Maine has a deer feeding program every year as their winters can be very harsh. They even have live feeding cameras setup for folks to watch.

I know this is tongue in cheek, because that was my first thought as well. But, most of these states have adapted feeding methods to address CWD. How do I know? I just listened to some Utah biologist talk about it.

Pretty cool study they are doing, too. In Utah they have radio collard some deer they are feeding. They darted the fawns, weighed them and did some other screenings. One group of fawns is being supplemental fed and another is not.
So far, they are picking up dead deer where they haven't fed. It's a rough winter this year in some parts.
