Never hunted in Idaho but I've hunted just across the line in Montana.loved it,saw a lot of animals,the scenery is worth the trip.
Buy a wolf tag. There are a bunch atleast in the area I was in. If you see wolf tracks(which are bigger than a horse track) you probably won't see any elk or deer.we were in the kootineni national forest.

Big timber, forested country. Start by calling the IDFG Region One office at 208-769-1414. Ask for the Regional Wildlife Manager named Wayne Waikkenen. He can get to the right people and can give you an overview of the big game populations in the hunting unit.
