For the first time ever I started using life lines on my hangons.

I sure hope he recovers.
I am surprised he wasn't wearing a fall restraint device of some kind.

Wow! It just goes to show it can happen to anyone, anytime.

At Terry’s age he will most likely never recover from it fully.

I fell at 50 years old not from a stand but fractured two vertebrae’s and my sternum.

Still everyday I’m reminded of it.

I put climbing life lines back on my stands this year before the season started.

It’s better to be safe than sorry.

I’ve always liked the Durury’s and hope he recovers fully.

I've always enjoyed watching the Drury brothers and their members. They are annoying like most shows. I like the way they do things. Hopefully Terry is recovering quickly.

He probably had something going for him that most of us don't... he wasn't alone when it happened. You might survive the fall but if it takes hours to get help because no one knows until hours after the accident your results could be different. Wear your harness.

He was. It just wasn't connected to anything.

He's recovering just fine. This was 4 days ago.

That's great to hear but wearing it not connected is the same as not wearing it, only worse.
Just glad he is ok.

Anyone who falls out of a tree stand and is not wearing a restraint (or have it hooked up to the tree) .... it is their own fault. Period

Unhooking from your lifeline to hook up to the tree is really the only time Im unhooked. Now,when I do that Im at least holding on to something to steady me till I get secure. His tree step broke I read,if he had been using a lifeline that would have stopped him.

I don't think he blamed anyone or anything else.

He was hunting a treestand that he hadn't been in 7-8 seasons. The landowner inspects and fixes the stands. He was climbing up tree steps in the dark with a 30-40 lb backpack on. When he went to climb in the stand the top tree step came out of the tree and he fell. Very lucky to be up and and walking a few days later.

I used to do this too, but now hook into the lifeline at the base of the tree and just stay connected to it when I sit.
No more worrying about that second or two "in between", while 20' up a tree in the dark.

When these professionals call a tree stand a “set” is that short for something like setup? Or does it maybe mean a “set” of stands cause there is usually two in one tree? (Cameraman and hunter) or is it just the cool thing to say?
Just wondering.
I guess I could put that in Catman’s pet peeve thread.
I’m glad he’s gonna he ok. I like Terry. His brother not so much.

Glad he's ok. Any time I've watched him hunting he's always had a harness on. I'm sure it was one time he didn't have it connected during a climb or he took it off for a split second. Whatever the case is I'm glad he's ok and lived to tell about it.

He said it was a stand he hadn't hunted in a long time, and it didn't have a safe line. The manager for that farm had checked the stand at the beginning of the season. His cameraman was already in the stand, and Terry was on the last step, and it broke on him. It was one of the folding, screw-in steps.
