Same here. If by some luck I were to have two shooters give me the opportunity to "end" my season early I would be very happy to put ALL my focus on my childrens hunting. Chances are if I get one down early I will be focusing more on getting the kids out anyway, I get the most solo hunts when the bad weather is around and they won't go.

When I read some of these posts on this thread and others, it saddens me to think what our sport has become....

...trophy this trophy that, MATURE bucks and does only, only X number deer on my property cause that's what's pics I have, 120s 130s 140s 150s blah blah, and my favorite... "Do yall think I should go hunt today or not cause such and such?"

Geez. No personal shots here but what happened to just going huntin?

My thoughts exactly

Bottom line is I aim to kill mature 4.5yo+ deer...it's rare to have a chance at killing more than one in a season so the 2 buck rule doesn't effect me in the least bit...

Nope, I'll shoot my deer as I do but will most likely be done earlier and then I will take a friend hunting when I am done and put him on a couple of nice deer. The rest of the time I will go to MS/AR and chase some deer over there. The reduced limit will allow me to spend more time getting others into hunting and getting a chance to shoot a nice buck and explore other states. Arkansas has a lot of big bucks... and a 2 buck limit.. and antler restrictions.

Not much but to say it's not in the back of my mind I would be lying ! I've tagged out many times but in the last two or three years I've become more selective and with the new rule I don't want to enter the gun season with no buck tag and I don't shoot does that much anymore .

It won't have an effect on anything I do. All the people that have decided to shoot deer out of spite because the change in laws should really just quit hunting now. Doing anything out of spite is not good for your mental health. The deer you take deserve more respect than you would probably be giving them. If you want to shoot the first two spikes that come along and are happy with them, then I will help you drag them out and will be the first to congratulate you. If you shoot anything, regardless of size, just to get back at someone or some agency, then you really need to ask yourself why you are hunting in the first place.

It has for me, but only because I know there are 2 good bucks on my property. If there was only 1 I would have probably shot the 6 point I had at 15 yds on opening day. If I had 3 buck tags, I would have drilled him.
Because you only have two on deer cams?

Hate to tell you but research and time has shown me that YOU WILL see deer on your property in the fall that have not been in your home range all year long, much of this has to do with food patterns, so,ex has to,do with hunting pressure around you but much has to do with the rut and rutting behavior.

This is one reason it's important to run trail cameras year round and check them year round,

Yes I know all this and I see deer every year around Nov. that show up out of nowhere, but I have 2 that hang around all year and I am after them. I know this because I run cameras year round... HOWEVER for whatever reason, I really like to kill a deer on opening day of archery. I also hunt high pressure public land during archery, that I am not managing, so if it turns out that the good lord presents me with a small buck on opening day, then so be it. Although now I only have 2 tags, so I decided it was not as important and I'd rather save them. I guess in that sense the limit reduction achieved what it was put in place for. 99% of the time I pass small bucks and wait for does, but the opening day of archery, I used to make an exception. Not having the 3rd tag, made me think twice about that, so in that sense it changed the way I hunted.

it has certainly changed mine. those 2.5 yo 8 points i have been passing under a 3 buck limit will now get shot. i have rarely killed 2 bucks in a season having passed many chances. i WILL kill 2 bucks a season from here on out until they get their 1 buck limit, then i'll just go fishing.
Great attitude! Just start fishing now if you are that pissed off over something that pretty much didn't affect you or thousands of others that never killed 3 anyways. Instead of being positive and keeping an open mind hunters like you are now saying to heck with all y'all and I am going to kill everything just piss everyone off. I think it is funny sometimes when I see post on here about how hunting is all about spending time with friends and family or just being able to spend time in Gods creation and watching the sun come up but some of the same folks will make posts like this. If they truly believed those things then a simple change in limits wouldn't matter imo.

In response to the OP, it has changed me. In the past I only killed bucks that I believed to be 3.5 or older and tagged out most years. This year I will kill the first good 3.5 yo buck I get a shot at and the second buck will have to be something special. It's not a major change but definitely going to be more selective.

I never shoot a third one anyway, as most hunters in the state didn't. It truly doesn't make any difference to me, I shoot what makes me happy period. Don't give a flip what anyone else thinks.

Not sure how or why that what would be classified as BS, but that doesn't bother me either.

That's BS, every one of you 'tough guys' acting as if the laws don't affect you, come on, gimme a break. It changes everyone's "shot decision" because if you've already shot TWO bucks, you can't legally shoot the THIRD one!

But it doesn't change anything for me, I ain't got no never mind anyways .....

Of course you cant shoot the third one, or fourth, fifth, sixth, etc. But that does not change my mind on the first one I decide to kill. Does it change your mind?

I cant shoot Bald Eagles either...see the irony in the logic?
