My old service manager did that to our picnic table too !!!!!
It wasn't cut for any reason other than something was on top of it and it was 'there'

LOL reminds me of my dad.
I would go over to his house at least once every two weeks to fix something that he busted.
Running over water facets with the mower, cutting power lines with the tractor, whatever.
I would give anything to go fix something there today.

Know several people that way. Thankfully my dad was a work smarter type of guy.
I have a dad in law is like that, he loves to wood work and build stuff and is currently doing some remodeling in his home. The unfortunate part is that he and a flat wall and straight line have never met. He'd also think nothing of getting a lazer level and scaffolding out to hang a picture and it would be crooked. But I do enjoy fixing the problems and listening to what must have happened.
