my kids collect them and I always were told they were indian money. If my 8 year old finds one he runs to me and asks"how much money did this Indian have"? lol

it is a fossil from an aquatic plantlike something or another, that is only found living in the depths of the ocean. Just makes you think back to when these spots in the woods, and ridgetops were once covered by water several thousands of years ago.
