Crazy high $ timber sale

29 acres total of all virgin cypress trees estimated 200 to 300 years old recently sold.

The gross $ amount was $590.000.00 which was split between the land owner and the timber buyer.

Local timber guy in Brownsville is building a high production sawmill just for cypress logs

Sassafras is another wood that SHOULD be crazy hot, the problem is there just isnt enough of it to support a huge market.

Light, resists water, resists rot, resists insects. Over half of the walls in my house are sassafras.

Crazy money… should have bought cypress trees 200-300 years ago!!! Ha! Now one more question, what happens to that land, because don’t cypress require swampland to grow?

Currently being used for doors windows wall coverings in metal home buildings.
There is still over 100,000 board feet of timber on the 29 acre site.
Yes it’s in a swamp type location.

Sassafras is another wood that SHOULD be crazy hot, the problem is there just isnt enough of it to support a huge market.

Sadly we lost a couple of big sassafras and after some research learned that some type of beetle bores into the tree and transmits spores or a fungus into the tree and the fungus eventually causes wilting and kills the tree.....think it was the ambrosia beetle.
