Clear cut question

The owner of our lease is having most of the property clearcut. My question is how far away are they supposed to stay away from the stream bed? Or where can I find this information? My buddy and myself found some of the best sign we have ever seen on our property today, and we are worried the clear cutting may mess all of this up. The old jeep trail we found to access this bottom hasn't been used since the pine beatle killed most of the pines a few years ago. Luckly most of the old men on the lease are to lazy to clear the trail enough to access it.

Stream side management zones are dependant on the type of stream and the slope of the bank. Generally a distance of 50 - 75 feet is required. However, this is not an area where everything has to be left. Up to 50% of the canopy can be removed under the Tennessee BMPs. Timber w/in the smz should be winched out.

Some managers do place restrictions on smz's that do not alow any cutting w/in the zone. But for the landowner, theres generally some big trees around the creeks where it wasnt cut before. So it really depends on how he sets up his harvest and his contract.
