Need some help, my company has an annual fishing trip. This year the trip is looking between Guntersville and Chickamagua. This is not a serious trip of avid fisherman, though a few fish often, most this will be there fishing trip for the year. My questions are: Which lake is easier fishing? Which lake is better to catch the most variety (bass, bream, crappie, catfish, etc.)? Also, does anybody have recomendations on a cabin on/near the water that will sleep 15-20 people?

Right now, we are leaning towards Chic, due to the amount of grass in Guntersville. I could see some of the people getting annoyed quickly with that.

We are going in late May or June if this helps.

The Chick will have grass on it too in the shallows. It can be quite the pain if you don't have the gear to handle it. It is decently clear in the channel areas though...but if you are going in May/June time frame, the channel areas will be bombarded with river traffic. Being close to Chattanooga and other wealthier nearby towns...it is full of folks with lots of money, and they all have cabin cruiser boats. They will flat run you over (the scene from Caddyshack comes to mind). Fishing pressure is also quite heavy on the Chick. With that said...it is still a great fishery if you have patience to deal with the other people that WILL be around you at all times. Some have no respect or manners either. I've never been to Guntersville so no comment there.

If you want variety, I'd say Chickamauga is the place to go. If you want bass, head for Guntersville. Chickamauga is producing some BIG bass this year, but it's not producing numbers.

But I maintain Chick has more good options for the species you mentioned. Yea, cruiser and recreational traffic can be a hassle ... but it's mostly on weekends. Weekdays are not really a big deal, especially in the mornings and late evenings when fishing is better anyway.

Not a lot of options for places to stay on the water however. You can check with Island Cove Marina. They have a couple of nice cabins and a hotel: http://www.islandcovemarina.us/index.html

Idk much about chic but I've been going to guntersville for the last 15 yrs this yr will be 16th on the 2nd week of June it's our family trip, we stay at a small resort called (ossa win tha) in the middle of the lake, small cabins good price (not a ritz or holiday inn by any means but it has everything we need plus ramp and dock for boats) plenty of bream around the shore and bass but we spend the whole week there bring back a huge fish fry with the best tasting bass you will ever eat and never run a whole tank of gas the entire week

I would say the chick on top of the variety of fish what if a couple of days the weather is not great and its stormy there's plenty of places around Chattanooga and hixson to entertain you u.til the weather looks better and if you need a place to stay I know a guy that runs a church camp right on the chick with a nice boat ramp and docks that maybe your people can rent out if its not booked just pm me and ill see if I can get yall two in touch
