I bought a leather Butt Buddy long gun holster many years ago at Cabela's.
I like using it much more than carrying a long gun using a sling.
I wear it in the front closer to the belly, and the position can be adjusted by sliding it on a belt to the left or right.
Because mine had a strong smell of fresh leather, I covered it over with a thin plastic food bag which helps to eliminate its scent.
Using it helps to maneuver the gun while moving through thick brush.
Because only one hand is needed to support the gun, the other hand can be used to push branches aside while passing through.
It also allows to be ready for a quick shot, and greatly helps to relieve fatigue.
I wouldn't want to hunt without it.
It's my favorite hunting accessory, and one that I consider to be indispensable.

Similar items come in different designs, and folks can even make their own.

Been known to stick the butt into my front pocket dove hunting , its a little quicker getting it in position and saves some energy, mostly carry a 20g less than 6lbs now

If someone wore a small empty fanny pack, it could be unzipped to stick the gun butt into.
Thin material may not provide as much support as thick leather does, but it would probably work well enough to show what using the holster is like.
