Makers Mark #1 seed for a reason.

Marketing?

No just best sippin bourbon on the market.

I like Makers Mark a lot, but I know next to nothing about bourbon and I don't drink it very often. I do have some friends who are hardcore bourbon guys and they do not drink Markers Mark. If I order it when I'm with them I catch grief for it. They order bourbons that I've never heard of before.

My opinion is this:

Markers Mark is ok, there's nothing wrong with it and I don't mind drinking it it one bit. But, it is overpriced for what it is. What it is, is the best marketed and one of the most readily available bourbons out there next to Jim Beam. For the money, I'll take a bottle of Wild Turkey at approximately $15 cheaper per bottle and aged for 7 years as opposed to the state minium that Maker's is aged. I buy a fair amount of bottles of bourbon, especially during the Fall and Winter and, for what you pay for a bottle of Maker's, you can get much better bourbon for the same price or a little more.

Which one?I enjoy trying new ones but wish you could buy a pint to try instead of a fifth.Buffalo Trace is good as is Bulliet.Four Roses is good also.

If you can find it, 12 yr Weller is an excellent bourbon as is Elmer T Lee. Neither come in pints, but they are not priced much more than others.

I do like Basil Hayden, but my local store has Ole Grand Dad (who is Basil H) at 114 proof. It's good as is the BIB Ole Grand Dad.
