They are here in Ky and I been trying a experiment with one. Every few days I pour a 20 oz bottle of cheap strawberry soda over it. Of all that we have out this one seems to be getting hit the most. Have another same brand not 40 yards away that don't show near the sign. They got a 4 inch deep hole dug all the way around it so far.

yes they are legal but a sugar block isn't lol.cant have any grain or food in it & has to be a high % of salt, its in the book some where

All minerals and even baits are legal in TN. However, you can't hunt over bait. Mineral sites are legal to hubt, but putting the soda on it would most likely make it illegal to hunt over. If you remove it before season, it is okay though.

Tried some Molasses on another block a couple hundred yards away yesterday. Have not gone back to check but thinking about hanging a camera or two watching over them for a while. Just playing with the park deer while season is out.

our lick is in a high traffic area and would probably be good without the salt. it is just there mainly to get pics.

And in my opinion, that's the best use of salt licks--for placing cameras over. For that purpose, they can be very useful.

Couldn't agree more BSK...........still over the last few summers I have 24/7 photos of lactating does and fawns wearing them out..........as many as 700+ in a few week period so I like knowing that the deer like licking and enjoy supplementing their dietary desires

Yes, but not legal to hunt over.

Arn't mineral blocks legal to hunt over in TN if they are at least 51% salt?

Legal if they don't contain any grain or nonrefined foodstuffs and are at least 51% by weight of salt or other minerals.
Exactly! You have to be careful with what you hunt over.

I do the same thing last year in an area that has always been good, just wanted to take inventory of the deer in the area with a trail camera.... I don't know that it didn't ruin the spot in ways... It was a morning stand between food and bed, but with the salt lick in there last season I was busted walking 3 of 4 times entering the stand because the deer were hanging around instead of passing through. Lesson learned I suppose: I'll never put salt near an established stand again, I haven't replenished that site, and tweaked the stand location after the season hoping for more undetectable entry.
