Anybody up to a "real" Hawken build?

I don't believe it was me. Be very careful with them...one slip and you have firewood. I do cut the barrel channel mostly with a shaper cutter. I do use the Dremel as a miniature router mainly in hogging out wood in the lock mortise. Everything else is with mostly chisels, rasps, files and scrapers.

I've never thought about the difference you mentioned... but I can see where it would take more time..

That is the natural wood grain. It's a very nice piece of curly maple.
