Your exactly right, practice and lots of it, is what it takes to be proficient at handgun hunting. I haven't hunted with a rifle in several years. Working on a long range T/C Contender, a 30-30 case necked down to 6.5. It's called a 6.5 BRM. I've got 100 cases fire formed, trimmed and ready to be loaded, just waiting on bullets to arrive.I've hunted deer with a handgun for over 30 years. There was a few years that I never even picked a rifle up. It can be a great way to deer hunt as long as you keep the shots within ethical range and practice practice practice. I've killed deer with 357, 44 mag, 44 special, 10mm, 40 and 460.
Shame on you for letting that one get away!!!! A good trigger job would have worked wonders with it. Believe it or not a 41magnum. will shoot flatter than the 44mag. I know a guy who has killed several Elk and truck loads of deer with his 41 and he uses only cast bullets he makes himself. A 230 gr cast powder coated bullet at around 1200–1250 and gets complete penetration even on frontal shots on Elk. For deer he uses a 210 gr. cast hollow point powder coated bullet. Penetration is no issue. The 41 works.Yes. I've killed a deer with a Ruger Blackhawk .41 magnum a few years back. Regrettably I've since parted ways with this revolver.
Well done Sir! Keep up the good work. How bout a yote???
i have the same gun in 357 for deer hunting , carried it last year few times no luck , will soon im sure
Agree. As long as you are using an adequate caliber and bullet weight, the biggest issue is personal ability, consistency, and good judgement on distance vs. what you are using.Your exactly right, practice and lots of it, is what it takes to be proficient at handgun hunting.
