May be a dumb question but before it gets chopped up….

Anyone have any interest in this large, very straight oak tree for wood or lumber? It was struck by lightning a few months ago and if there is no interest I'll pay to have it removed. If you or you know someone that would want it you can have it but you'll have to take it down. It will take a bonded/insured tree service as it's big. It may have no value and I'll get it removed but before I do I wanted to throw this out there. I'm hoping somebody can use it otherwise it'll get chopped up. I'm in east Memphis near Germantown.

Anybody know if a tree company would have an interest in only 1 tree, albeit a large, straight oak?

thanks team.

Nice gesture, but i dont think they would come for a single tree, even though its free. Might find a firewood man who would cut it up for free of a minimal charge at least.

I had a real nice white oak that I lost in a storm. After calling several, I found a sawmill that said he would take the tree. It was not a yard tree. I could get paid by the linear foot or have him custom cut the tree. Wife wanted me to build some shelves and use some for trim in our home, so I went with having him custom cut.

He told me when to meet him, so I cut the trunk of the tree into three 9+ ft pieces and loaded it onto my trailer with the front end loader on my tractor. That was the end of September last year.

He wasn't there when I got there and they didn't know when he would be back, I ended up having one of the boys in the yard off load the tree.

I checked with him several times, and he has yet to do anything with the tree, but he says it was still good.

Lumber prices are still kinda high, while it seems like a free tree would be good easy money, seems to me that some sawmills are not really interested. May be best off to check with your insurance about having the tree taken care of. Good luck with it.

My mother in law just had one large tree removed due to ice storm. The guy that did it was licensed and reasonable. I'll see if I can get the contact info.
My MIL used "The Tree Firm" and was pleased with their work and price. Really big tree split going into two directions, so a crane was required. You can try them but do your own due diligence.
