The ones I know of are retired and/or work for themselves. And I've also heard some guys send their wives to get in line and wait. :)
They are lining up around 5am and their wives/friends arrive at 8:50 and join them in the front of the line.

Guy behind the gun counter at academy told me people bring chairs, and a thermos of coffee, put out their chair, drink coffee and relax while waiting on line for the ammo. He said he sees the same people every truck day. Don’t any of three people have jobs?
Yep. It happened after Sandy Hook too. A friend told me he’d seen the same thing recently, and I’m sure that every Academy, “Wal-Marks”, and Sporting Goods stores has the same “Entrepreneurs” doing that now.

My buddy who's retired told me the same thing. He waited in line behind 25 or so people, having severe gout and arthritis himself, and when the doors were about to open a flood of people came from their cars and broke in line with their friends and family. Said it pushed him from that 25ish spot back to around 75 or so.
