I'm looking to get some insight on alpha gal. A really good buddy of mine has it, and wants to start deer hunting even though he won't be able to enjoy any of the meat. Does anyone have some insight of things that could help curb this condition or will he never know the taste of tenderloins fried up in some butter to a perfect medium rare?

My father in law had it for about 3 years. He recently started adding red meat back into his diet in small portions and after a few months, eats whatever he wants. It is possible to get over.

My wife has it. 3 years of no beef or pork. Now she can very occasionally have some home grown beef of ours but if she eats it at a restaurant she has bad reactions

Check out alpha-gal sites on Facebook. My wife has it and alpha gal sites on Facebook have helped a lot. Some go in remission and flair up again. NOT A SIMPLE ANSWER! Would not wish this on anyone!!!!!!

I know a young man who had it. He did acupuncture, and now has no issues.

His mother also has it. Acupuncture helped, but didn't completely cure it. If I'm ever afflicted, I'll sure give it a shot.

Beef is still a big NO for me. Pork and venison, in limited amounts and only occasionally, is ok. Yes it does suck and i sure do miss a really nice ribeye. Chicken and fish starts to get old.

I've got it.. I can't eat any mammal or dairy. From what I've read, you have it forever but it can go into remission and you can possibly eat your meat again after several years. Any future tick bites will set it off again and possibly worse. My tip for the day.. get some ostrich and emu, the AG safe red meat! A good ostrich steak is hard to tell from beef. Emu tastes similar to venison to me.

Everyone with Alpha Gal has slightly different symptoms as to what triggers a reaction. First, remember Alpha Gal isn't a reaction to the meat itself, it's a reaction to the fats in the meat, so the fattier the meat, the higher the chance of a reaction. The most common reactions are to beef and beef fat. However, some sufferers can eat venison with no problem, IF all fat has been trimmed away before packaging. Venison with beef or pork fat added is generally a big no. Some people even reacted to the fat in dairy products (whole milk, ice cream, etc.).

How long it takes to get over the allergic reactions is unique to each person. I've seen people get over it in 3-5 years, and some take much longer. I didn't eat beef for 20 years. It worked. After 20 years, I started trying little bits of ground beef and had no problems. Eventually, I ate a whole burger. No problem (except the fact my digestive track had lost all bacteria needed to digest beef! THAT was a problem!). But then I never had any problem with eating venison. But we butcher our own and are VERY careful to remove all fat. I also had problems with pork if it had fat in the product. For example, a pork chop, no major problems. But pork sausage or pork brauts that have fat added into the ground meat - problem.

It has not for me. I've had it for 20 years and get tested annually.
happy to answer any questions
I got it before anyone knew what it was (1991). I was told I was crazy when I reported I was having allergic reactions to beef and that the allergic reaction took EXACTLY 6 hours to set in. I was told that was impossible. Then Alpha Gal (originally called "Mammalian Meat Allergy") was discovered in 2004.
