Cut one oak tree down today and trimmed another. Both were full of acorns, not as big as I've seen but lots of them. Both trees were Red oaks.
I hunt an area without too many oaks. It's like an extra food plot during early season. They hammer a couple sections. Like goin to the grocery storeLooks like a bumper crop here in East Tn as well. I really enjoy hunting during the lean years.
It really makes hunting in South Cherokee hard, food is everywhere and game doesn't have to move much to find it.I hunt an area without too many oaks. It's like an extra food plot during early season. They hammer a couple sections. Like goin to the grocery store
Be ready for a bumper crop next year if the weather is decent. 2008 was "nuts" after the 2007 drought.I don't expect a single acorn at my place. Drought wiped them out.
Interesting observation. I'll have to go back and look at my records for 2008.Be ready for a bumper crop next year if the weather is decent. 2008 was "nuts" after the 2007 drought.
Same here in southern wayneDid not see a single acorn today of any flavor & did a lot of looking while it was cool. Great day to be out anyway!
'07 was also a late freeze and statewide EHD year if my memory serves- a bad year to be be a deer. '08 was a year of plenty for the survivors. Wish I had taken a picture but I remember a persimmon that was so loaded in '08 that it doubled over into the road and unfortunately had to be cutInteresting observation. Correct. 2007 was the Year from Hell. Very late HARD freeze. It had been an early spring and all the trees had already leaved out. Freeze killed all the leaves. Zero acorns. Then we had a near record drought in the late summer. The heat and drought produced the worst EHD outbreak I've ever personally seen in Middle TN. Most of the region lost at least 30-40% of the population.'07 was also a late freeze and statewide EHD year if my memory serves- a bad year to be be a deer.
