These came off Wheeler (in AL).. I've always been able to catch some good ones on Wheeler. Been fishing it most of my life... Caught this one practicing for a tournament a couple weeks ago. Didn't weigh it but it was all over 5lbs..

Caught this one in a 80 boat tournament out of Decatur, AL last Saturday.. I missed $1000 big smallmouth by 4 ounces with it :(
Headed to Wilson this weekend to catch em at night. It's hot enough now and the night bite ought to be good.. Caught several 5+ pounders at night down there over the years. I got a soft spot for these brown fish!

Nice, I love the brownies too. We catch some good ones below Wheeler dam.

Yep. That would be Wilson Lake.. Some big ones all over that lake. I've caught some of my bigger ones on the other end towards Florence. But yeah, some big ones have been caught just below the dam. I believe the state record was actually caught in Wheeler Dam tailwaters.. Buddy of mine had the biggest I've seen get off below the dam one evening a few years back. I bet it weighed 8 pounds at the least..

Toads! My favorite fish to catch, I grew up on Dale Hollow you can hang in to some good ones there also.

Used to go to Dale Hollow at least twice a year for several years straight. Haven't been in a few years. We'd go in the spring and then in summer. Always stayed at Horse Creek in the spring and usually camped on islands in summer or at Horse Creek if it was miserable hot.. And yeah I've caught some big ones up there, fat and healthy!! Actually by accident caught a 5.1 largemouth up there in the spring one year. Caught her on a jerk bait, then 2 casts later caught a 4.2 smallmouth off the same tree.. I love the crankbait bite in the spring (Hotlips) ;)

There is no place like it. I like the way no houses are built on the water. Best night time jig fishing there is in the summer! And you better be ready, they will jerk the rod out of your hands!

Actually found a few Dale Hollow pics... These were probably in 2003 or 2004... That's been 10 years ago  .. I feel old..

I grew up in Ashburns Creek we cut some timber so you can see the lake from the porch of my grandpas house. I hope someday to move back there.

Awesome brown fish! Yes Dale Hollow is sacred ground(water), just something special about that place to me!!! Re-reading "Them 'Ol Brown Fish" again for about the 20th time right now!!!! Wish I lived closer!!

We had a 7lb 14oz smallie that we kept alive in our minnow vat for a couple days before we decided to release it. A friend caught it one night on Pickwick and thought he was going to have it mounted but decided not too. It was released. We caught that one and 4 more over 5lbs in the same night.

Some of the biggest sacks of 5 smallmouth I've ever seen came off Pickwick.. Seen a 27 lb bag of smallmouth weighed in at a tournament several years ago out of J.P. Coleman.. Them muscle divers down there will flat whoop your butt in tournaments.. They know where them fish are year round diving. Hard to beat the locals down there. They live on that water everyday.

The grass is coming on strong on Pickwick now. The quality of largemouth has always been good. But it's getting better every year!
