Patterned my Mossberg 835 and 535 today. Both had Indian Creek chokes the 835 had a .675 constriction the 535 had a .660 constriction. Both at 40 yards using 3" TSS #9. Picture on the left is the 535 and the picture on the right is the 835. First time ever shooting TSS it's pretty good. After I shot the 835 I made corrections to the left and was center mass.

Lol, only took about 2-3 shots each. I have a laser boresighter now. Just lined the laser up with the red dot and was good to go. Total of 5 shots to get lined up where I wanted them. The 835 was a little high on the first.one adjusted down then a little left. So it took 3 the 535 took 2. Plus I use a slip on limbsaver.

Yeah it does kick but throws a nice pattern. Not sure if it would have made I difference but I did polish the barrels this year with Kroil and JB Bore cleaner. Let it sit after I put it.in there the scrubbed it all out. Then used some Boretech shotgun cleaner and ran a cleaning rod through them with about 30 passes. Both barrels were shining. But with that TSS it may not have even mattered.

I kind of like them because they are light like a 20 gauge. I will say I always use a limbsaver pad with it whether I am patterning or hunting. First time I shot it I was using 3.5" Winchester Double X, shot 2 shells out of it and said no more of these. They rattled my sphincter! Never shot another 3.5" she'll again and this was 2010-2011 timeframe.

Dad has a little 20" barrel 835 thumb hole I've never shot anything that compares to it. It kicks so hard it broke the wood on the bottom of the thumb hole. But he also has been shooting 3.5 2 7/16 ounce loads for years.

I love my 835. They kick. But honestly I don't think it's that bad. My only issue with the 835 is the LOP was so long for me when I was in a sitting position. So I cut 1.25 inches off the stock and put a limb saver pad on. Made a huge difference for me.

I bought my 835 in 1990 and still use it every turkey season. It wreaks havoc on both ends but its a turkey killing machine so ill put up with the recoil.
