Picked up a 7mm-08 barrel for my Encore here from Backstraps. Great transaction btw. I'd like to try some 140gr accubonds in this load as I'd like to center-punch lungs out to 5-600. Powders I have on hand that would work are Varget and IMR4350. Any advice appreciated....

With the cost/availability of components I like to nail down a load as quick as possible. Maybe I'll get lucky.

41.5 Varget 140 gr Barnes TTSX shoots awful well in my rifle . A load I really like is 44 grains of Varget behind a 120 gr. Barnes TTSX. I shoot both loads out of an X-Bolt, I prefer the 120 TTSX.

We use 52 grains of IMR4350 under 140 Abonds and Partitions....Fed 210M primers, R-P Brass. Accuracy in 280 Venture Bolt is sub one inch and we are loaded out to .8 off the lands.

We have two 7mm-08's; an Axis Bolt and a CVA Optima Elite. The Axis is pure death with this load but have to change bullet seating depth, The Optima wants a lighter powder charge and on both rifles the chamber is TIGHT.

Hope this holds up. First 3 shot group with the Encore! I shot one more group at 42gr and it was around .625. With the cost to replace components and what little time I have I'll just stick with the 41.5. Next time out will chrono and get my dope out to 5-600. I got lucky. Thanks again Backstrap for the barrel!

Both are great powders for that caliber. You could do a ladder test with each to see where the widest node is and load to the higher end of the node. Reason is the speeds will be lower with colder weather and you will hopefully still be in the node. Varget is slightly more temperature stable than 4350. Good luck and report back.
