shooting steel and stuff is one thing,,getting on paper and staying on half minute dots is entirely another,,I need lots of practice and try and translate all the wind doping I learned in 100 yard Smallbore over to longer range,,,

first try on paper ,not load testing or group shooting,,I was trying to dope the wind and stay in the orange,,it is tough,,
I didnt make any scope adjustments and was trying to hold off,,my reaction time is slow and by the time I see what I want and hit the trigger it would die or change,,

I am getting a better feel for how much the 6.5 bullets will drift with a given wind,,it is a lot less than 308 but you cant think the 6.5 will make up for bad calls,

Top left target looks good. If you can keep 1 MOA @ 1K, you are a top level shooter. So many think a 1/4 MOA 100 yd target translates into 2.5 MOA @ 1K.....It doesn't.

I'd rather have 1 MOA ammo and be able to read wind as apposed to having 1/4 MOA ammo and not be able to read wind.

looking at some FClass score sheets at 300,600 and 1,000,,there are some guys out there that have the wind in their back pocket,,

1/4 minute rifles and ammo is useless if you are dealing with 6-10 moa wind drift and changes of impact of .75 moa for every 1 mph wind change,,and cannot read that wind and pick up on those changes,,

I just like to shoot,,and try to learn,,

get on the Shiloh Sharps forum and read/learn about the wind from the shooters out West, they are the very best, 2 tons of information, the wind never stops out west

I have learned a ton from them

my favorite fun thing to do now is to see how close I can center punch a target at 300 yards, black powder, iron sight with the first break of the trigger

I will be moving to 500 yards this fall

changed primers to CCI BR4 and shot 5 rounds and 4 were on the X and one a little high almost on the line,,well under 1 inch,,loaded 5 more .005 longer and the group was tighter but a little higher on the X ring line around 3/4 inch,,

I am done testing and gonna run with this load with no more changes as long as my primer pockets stay tight,,

Lapua brass 1.843
CCI BR4 primers
40.3 grs H4350
140 Hornady BTHP Match
oal 2.775 jammed .005
2812 fps 25 round SD 9.6

3.5 minutes to 300
9 to 500
28 to 1000

with 35 grs less bullet and 5 grs less powder it makes a 308 look silly,,

Don't you mean 3.5 inch, 9 inch and 28 inch groups rather than moa's here? 3.5moa @ 300 yards would measure about 10.5 inches and I know you aren't shooting groups that big. :)

that is the dope it takes on the knobs to get zeroed at those ranges,,

with the 175 SMK in my 308 at 2725 it takes 37.5 to get to 1,000,,making the 6.5mm 9.5 minutes flatter at 1,000 yards which is somewhere around 8 feet,,
