I've tried doing it with just a notepad, but always just fizzles out after the first few entries. Well the girlfriend bought me this for Christmas and it's a nice piece that can be displayed on the mantle. At least that way it will be a reminder to make the entries. Hopefully the first entry will be soon.

I used to make notes when I went on fishing trips to Arkanasas. Nothing too specific or detailed, just enough notes to know what worked, what didn't, what I'd do differently next time. I need to get back to doing that.

For the last 8 years I have kept one on my rock fishing trips. I keep records of fish caught and size, date, water temperature, location, generator flows, who was with me if anyone and what they caught and a section for notes for anything out of the ordinary. I've learned tons from going back and reading past years entries. I've always kept mine on my computer in a spreadsheet type file. It makes it easier for me to look back and compare information.

Great gift for sure. Use it and you will become a better fisherman.

If I did, it would only have two entries- They were biting today and They weren't biting today. I have a friend who keeps a journal and can put out all kinds of statistics as to weather, bait, type of fish, biggest fish, total weight.
