    If you have not burned

Guys I’m glad y’all got the opportunity to burn. I’m a chicken it when I burn. RH less than 40 and winds less than 10 with no gusts over 12. I’ve had too many rabbits come jump out across the firebreaks on fire. I’ll wait now with the green up well on its way until next year.

Trapping season coming to an end

Yes, you can trap and hunt yotes all year long. There are some traps and baits that target a specific species. However if you’re targeting yotes you will most likely catch other predators as well. Who wants to turn loose of a big tom? So, to answer your question of what you might catch, the...

Trapping season coming to an end

If I’m not mistaken you can trap yotes coons possums all year long. But once you get to my age 4 to six weeks is enough. However I normally catch 3 to 8 cats, but I hate letting any of them go!!

Trapping season coming to an end

I’m sad to see the season over but overall had a good one. Only had traps out less than four weeks. Four of the yotes had the mange. One of them had it so bad she got wet and froze to death. In a way felt kinda sorry for the mangee ones. 10 yotes 3 cats 1 coon 6 possums 1 buzzard 1 lost trap

    First catch of the year

This little kitty wasn’t getting away . Look closely, she was in both traps at a bait pile. 2nd cat in 3 checks. It’s just like Christmas!!

    First catch of the year

That’s a good looking cat. After waiting for things to thaw out and the rain to stop, I finally got my traps out. Two days checking the line had 1 coon 4 possums 1 yote and a 21 pound tom. A great late start on the trap line.

Hunter overcrowding and the privatization of access

Growing up I was a countryfide city boy. Neighbors helped kill hogs for meat to eat. Walking through the grown up fields to kick up rabbits and quail on any of those neighbors fields was the norm. Our grandad passed away and grandma some years later sold the farm. 40 years of dreaming and...

    Food Plots Overgrown pasture

Seeing how you have contacted the NCRS you have a contact. They work with TN Forestry which holds a burn school annually. Go to the school to get the facts about fire. This will be very valuable information to you. We burn 10 to 70 acres annually for habitat. Bigger burns are performed by TNF ...

    Food Plots Overgrown pasture

A lot of help when burning. 4 additional people to watch firebreaks. Humidity of approximately 45% or less. And no more than 10 mph winds. Backing fire ( into wind) is safest. Best thing is to get the Tn Forestry to burn for you.

    Food Plots Rocks

The CC heads will turn brown in mid to late May. Drill directly through the clover I’ll even leave the existing corn stalks standing. Fertilize now with base fertilizer. Once the corn germinates spray with glyphosate and put down nitrogen. One problem you’ll encounter will be with rogue corn...

    Food Plots Rocks

I wanted to give y’all an update about the drilled corn through mature CC. If you look back in this post you will see the corn and now you can see the CC after the hard freeze and snow.

What kind of stake setup you using?

The stake puller is the ticket. However I don’t use chain on the earth anchor, I use12 inches of cable.
