They are tough no doubt
You can hunt right up until 1. She was wrong. I wonder what county that was. I’ve been checked many times after 1 or even 12 when it was noon and as long as you wasn’t calling and walking to the truck you were fine.
Blah
They should have been worried about turkeys over a decade ago when we were all saying the population was about to bottom out here. They acted like I was crazy. Guess not.
You obviously have never hunted out west where 100 deer are feeding in one alfalfa field.
Or you see upwards of 1000 in a 7 mile stretch of road in the early spring.
Maybe it is
Maybe it isn't
Why do west Tennessee deer have a higher rate than areas it's been known to exist for decades in western states where deer are far more concentrated?
How in the world do those herds bounce back from severe EHD and snow die offs? Are they just tougher than Tennessee...
Just do what Kentucky has been doing. You want to have some transport rules then fine. But all these extra tags, kill all the deer rules are not very smart.
Honestly, my advice is call states like Nebraska. They’ve learned to live with it after 20+ years. Still plenty of deer there.
Oldest Tennessee buck I ever killed (6.5) was working a field edge scrape at the tail end of the rut when I saw him.
But I do think those in the timber closer to bedding is probably better
Mountain lions are not good
And the first deer they kill in the winter is bucks. My buddy never finds doe kills in the winter. Always bucks. I guess there are weaker and live alone.
I haven’t ever figured it out. No rhyme or reason really. I’m talking about late morning, mid afternoon, early evening not the typical daylight and dusk movement.
Even this year with the largest acorn crop in history 😂 it happened. Most cameras on plots for easy access. Even with...
I get a large amount of daylight movement of older bucks at the same time of October. It lasts about 3 days
But my rut peak breeding is first week of December.
I can tell by this site and others that Tennessee needs a one buck limit. Not a single picture of a mature deer all fall. 🙄
Considering hunters kill less than one buck per hunter I can see where a one buck limit would help.
Even the poachers killing more than two now will change.
I’m guessing there’s a lot more like everyone I know around here. It isn’t worth the time to mess with them anymore.
It sure isn’t because numbers are down.
