and/or know where to find em? I feel like these things have all but disappeared. I used to see em every now and again in the big stores and on-line before big bad Rona. I've never had one, but after getting fit for a LH bow, I'm sold that a LH rifle would be pretty sweet.

I've asked a few gun shops in town and always get the same reaction...like, yeahhhhhhh we ain't seen one of those in a long while.

I'm looking for a 243 to hunt some of the thicker stuff here in middle TN. I shot a good sized buck with my 7mm last year and blew his whole dang shoulder out. With these max 50-60 yard shots, my 7mm would wreck a smaller buck or a doe.

My son is left eyed dominant and I have also been looking for left handed rifles. Ruger makes a left handed in there Ruger American Predator line. But I have not found one any other than gunbroker. There are several other makers but that's the best budget friendly gun that I have found.

I've got my son's Savage 270 we bought him but I'm just as apt to shoot right handed if a deer is to my left. So instead of getting a Ruger American in left hand I opted to get the 18" barrel Predator in 308 Win for a second brush gun (that I can actually find ammo for). It's a little lighter than my Marlin 35 Rem but I doubt it'll replace it as my favorite brush gun.

So have you considered getting a lever action? Whether you go big with a 45/70 or just a 30-30, they're great woods guns and you can get second shots off quick no matter which shoulder you use.

Ruger also makes the standard RA in left hand but it's currently only in 308 Win and good luck finding one. Savage is another that usually has some left handed rifles at more affordable prices.

I primarily shoot lefthanded rifles but haven't been in the market for one in years so I am no help there. The majority of mine are custom jobs built on 700 lh actions.
Once you shoot one, you're hooked. It makes all the difference. A 243 would not be my choice of a brush gun. Too easily deflected.
I chose to go with 35 rem and 358 win when I was was building my left handed bolt action brush guns. There is a couple of left handed 450 bushmasters listed on gunbroker for 499.00. That would make an ultimate brush gun

Left eye dominant so I shoot everything lefty. I have two LH Browning ABolts and a LH Benelli 12 ga. But, if I had to do it all again, I'd probably just get RH guns with tang safety's. It's just as easy to learn how to operate a RH bolt rifle while shooting LH. You may have to break form and lose a split second but it's not that big of deal. When I go from RH to LH rifles or shotguns it always seems awkward the first time. My match rifle is set up to shoot LH but has a RH bolt to make it easier while shooting prone. My point is that it's whatever you get use to. I think about the sniper on Saving Private Ryan that shot LH with a RH bolt and just reached over to work the bolt. He was just as deadly.

30-30s are great for thick stuff, and lever actions are ambidextrous :p . Just saying...
I am a lefty, but shoot right handed bolt actions. It's just natural for me, tried a lefty once and it was just weird.

Ruger and Savage are your two best bets for reasonably priced bolt guns.
Yeah lever action is my other purchase in considering. My grandad taught me how to hunt with a 35 actually. Great gun and definitely a better option for the brush.

My dad now has it (RIP Pops) and said I gotta buy my own

35 Rem ammo seems tough to find these days too.

I do. You're probably looking at ordering online and having it delivered to your local FFL. As far as blowing up deer, you can probably rectify that with a different bullet just as easily as changing calibers. Bonded or all copper are designed to make 2 holes. Ballistic tips and SSTs blow them up.

Agree on 35 comment. Eyeing 30 30 for ammo availability.

But yes, after shooting RH bows my whole life, then getting a LH now, there's no going back. I'm imagining shooting a LH bolt action will be pretty sweet.

On the fence of a smaller caliber. Based on the feedback here you guys are pushing me toward the 30 30 / 35 route which I've been going back and forth now for months.

If I was buying a rifle for thicker stuff and shorter shots 243 wouldn't be my caliber of choice, but everybody has different preferences.
243 was my first rifle. Still have it, just is a youth stock. I was gonna put a full stock on it, but now I got kids of my own, I figured I'd get a new LH one haha.

Ive also been eyeing a lever action too.

I love a 7mm-08 if you aren't shooting beanfields. Enjoyable to shoot due to low recoil and deadly on whitetails. The Federal Fusions don't ruin a lot of meat either.
