New to me boat “hops” when trimmed

only thing i dont like is drilling my 2021 merc

if i dont like it how would one fill the holes jb weld

when i put the 2021 motor on my 17 triton aluminum it sits lower and i dont get a "lot" of trim before it starts porpoising

looks like the motor is too low. id raise it up to the bottom hole and see if you get more trim angle. the only other way is to probably install a jackplate. adding a foil may make it worse if its sitting too low. dont know what type of hull design you have but flatbottoms folks usually have to install trim tabs.

First take a straight edge , put it on the bottom of the boat and see where the cavitation plate is in relation to it. Most are even to 1" above the bottom of the boat. You can raise the motor up or down. If it's too high it will usually porpoise but some boats are just prone to it If they are a lightweight hull.( rear end heavy) Add weight up front and see what happens.

I got the one that requires no drilling. Been on there for 6 years now with no problems

It's on a 2016 Mercury 4 stroke 2.1 115

Should be moving the motor up this weekend if all goes as planned. Believe I have found another issue with this glorious purchase I have made. Boat has 4 holes in deck (quarter size) with plugs on back and front deck. When I pull these and push on foam it is completely saturated. I took a screwdriver and chip everything I could from one on the back deck and it went maybe 2-3 inches then I got what feels to be aluminum. Everything I have read leads me to believe I should pop all the rivets holding the decks down and remove all of said foam. Is this 100% necessary? Also, now wonder if that is attributing to large amount of unknown weight I'm rear of boat contributing to porpoising.

Just remember when testing even a boat that is set up correctly can still porpoise if it's trimmed too high at low speeds.

Adjust your trim.
